Dept. of Farm Structures

Farm Structures

Farm structures provide a conducive environment for building a prosperous commercial farm. They are often considered one of the branches of agricultural engineering, dealing with design, elaborate planning, and construction. Thus, you must study all their types and benefits before you begin to grow or breed something. Farm structures are also known as farm buildings. A farm structure is a building or facility built on a farm, especially on big farms, used for farming operations. There are numerous types of agricultural structures used for a variety of purposes. The Farm Structure Department educates students in the application of engineering principles to design and construct all kinds of farm buildings for residence, livestock management, storage of crop produce and processing operations. The primary objective is to understand the requirements of particular farm in the context of development of farm building and how to construct the building in economic manner with the efficient use of available resources in the production of food, dairy and other kind of businesses. Department, especially at the graduate level, is structured to be interdisciplinary. In addition to increasing their understanding of engineering fundamentals, students are encouraged to appreciate environmental and ecological effects of farm structures.

Graduate studies in Farm Structure engineering typically consider issues like the following

  1. The application of mechanics to solve problems involving common engineering
  2. Analysis of stresses and deflections in materials under load
  3. Factors affecting the strength of various building materials
  4. Building construction and cost estimation
  5. Design and construction of various farm buildings
